Looking for an assessment?
If you're looking for clarity about symptoms you are experiencing which do not make sense to you, a psychological assessment can help. Please note I only work with adult clients (18+). Different packages available depending on what you're after - see below.
Clinical psychologist vs psychiatrist
Psychiatrists attend medical school and specialise in pharmaceutical management of mental health symptoms.

A psychiatrist assessment:
-
Can provide an 'official' diagnosis
-
Compares your symptoms to a diagnostic criteria
-
Medical approach grounded in pathology AKA if something is different, then it is 'wrong'
-
Prescribes pharmaceuticals designed to suppress symptoms
-
May or may not provide a report to the client which details rationale for diagnosis
Clinical psychologists train for 6-7 years in human behaviour, psychology and treatment of mental health difficulties.

A clinical psychologist assessment:
-
Can provide an 'official' diagnosis
-
Assesses holistically the symptoms you are experiencing and how this compares to a diagnostic criteria
-
Approach is specific to the psychologist. I (Kelly) understand our systems to be adaptive and use the resources available to them at the time to find safety and regulation.
-
Provides education, skills and (non-pharmaceutical) treatment to target root cause of symptoms
-
Provide a report with individualised formulation explaining how the symptoms developed overtime within the cultural contexts the person had to adapt to.
